Santos defeated FC Juárez 2-1 this Sunday at Estadio Corona, in a Liga BBVA MX match that pitted the two lowest-ranked teams in the overall standings against each other. The home side came back from an early penalty conceded to the visitors and ultimately imposed its greater dominance in the second half to claim all three points.
How the match unfolded
The match kicked off with intensity, and the first cards came early: in minute 19, both Efraín Orona for Santos and Óscar Estupiñán for FC Juárez were shown yellow, and eight minutes later the same scene repeated itself with Diego González and Monchu, respectively. The proceedings made clear from the start that this would be a physical, hard-fought clash, with both sides booked in equal measure in the first half.
Santos suffered a forced early setback when, in the 33rd minute, Emmanuel Echeverría came on for Orona. The home side, which would end up dominating possession and shot volume, failed to convert its superiority in the first half, and the scoreline remained goalless well into the second period.

In the 78th minute, Esteban Lozano scored the goal that put Santos ahead, in a play that coincided with the home side's greatest dominance of the match. The final 2-1 scoreline reflected Santos' second goal late in the match, which sealed the home team's victory over an FC Juárez side that could no longer respond.
In the final minutes, Santos managed the result with the introductions of Ramiro Sordo, Luis Gómez and Javier Güémez (all in the 82nd minute), while FC Juárez used up its substitutions with Madson, Javier Aquino and Ricardinho without managing to turn the score around. Yellow cards for Jesús Murillo (88') and Denzell García (90'+1) closed out a physical contest right up to the final whistle.

Our take
Beyond the immediate result, our take is that this win carries relative value for Santos: it was a direct battle at the bottom of the table against the side that, according to this season's numbers, has shown the worst performance in the league. The home side's statistical dominance in shots, possession and corners confirms the victory had genuine footballing merit, but the reality of the overall standings — 17th and 18th place, respectively — calls for tempered enthusiasm.
For FC Juárez, the defeat deepens a results crisis already reflected in its goal difference, the most negative in the league. The team showed some reaction after conceding the early penalty, with several substitutions from the bench, but Santos' territorial superiority in the second half ultimately proved decisive. In our view, both sides will need more than this kind of isolated result to pull away from the relegation zone in the remainder of the season.
