Málaga fell 1-3 to Villarreal this Wednesday at La Rosaleda, in a match that the home side dominated for barely twelve minutes before watching the visitors turn the scoreline around with a brace from Pape Gueye and a goal from Alberto Moleiro, all of them scored in the first half.
How the match unfolded
Málaga came out determined to surprise Villarreal and did so right from the start, going ahead on the scoreboard before the quarter-hour mark. However, the yellow side, despite not holding the majority of possession in that opening spell, grew into the game and ended up imposing their rhythm from the half-hour mark onward.

Our take on this match is that Málaga once again showed a recurring weakness: an inability to hold on to a lead built up in the opening minutes. Dotor's early goal sparked hope, but Villarreal's response, with two goals in barely five minutes before the break, exposed a defensive fragility that has repeated itself over the club's recent matchdays.
For Villarreal, this result offers some relief after an inconsistent run, although the fact that they needed a late penalty to seal the game against a side sitting bottom of the table suggests the yellow side still have room for improvement before thinking about climbing to more ambitious positions in the standings.
